“Gateway Netbook LT2120u” 2010-05-16
By Thomas Pratt (Valdez, Alaska United States)
We now have three of these in our family so needless to say we are very happy with this little “gem” of a computer. For any on-the-go family, these are perfect in size and function. My 15 inch laptop now seems so heavy and burdensome to carry around. I even bought one for my seven year old as she is home schooled and she absolutely loves it.

“Unable to Upgrade Memory – Gateway Tech Support doesn’t care” 2010-05-10
By ChuckS (Klein, TX USA)
First a bit of background – I am a unix system administrator with more than 25 years in IT. I’ve worked with servers from IBM, HP, Compaq, Dell, Sun, and even the old DEC. I’ve been working with PCs since the 80s. I know PCs. That said then:

I purchased the Gateway LT2119u (the black version) as an easy-to-carry PC solution for an upcoming trip to China. My intention was to upgrade it to 2GB upon receipt so I also purchased the Crucial DDR2 PC2-5300 667Mhz module recommended here (and on the Gateway site). Short story, the netbook would not recognize the 2GB module. Upon power up, it would do nothing – not even get to POST. So I reinstalled the original 1GB module, opened up the BIOS settings and disabled the “Quick Start” option therein and tried the 2GB module again. Same story, nothing, not even POST. I contacted Crucial and they said to update the BIOS and try again. Checking the gateway site (don’t even try calling – there is no direct phone support for gateway) I found I have the most current BIOS available.

So thinking that perhaps, on the rare chance that it was a problem with the memory module, I ordered another 2GB module, this time a PNY with the same specs – DDR2, PC2-5300 667MHz. Same story – the netbook failed to recognize the new module and froze before POST.

So I contacted Gateway tech support via email. Over the course of three days and six or eight email exchanges they (Gateway Tech Support) determined that the computer was working as designed with the factory installed options and therefore this was an “out of scope” issue [i.e. not a defect or warranty problem]. They said they would be happy to turn the issue over to their “dedicated team called “Pay for support” who will be able to provide [me] with the best options available and help [me] further.” Uh, no thanks.

So cutting my losses, I’m returning the LT2119u and going with someone else. Over the years I’ve had numerous dealing with tech support organizations including Compaq/HP, Dell, Sun, IBM, Symantec, and Oracle. I’ve even had good support from TigerDirect on a pieces-and-parts home built gaming PC. I’ve *never* dealt with a more disinterested support organization than Gateway. And I’ll be darned if I ever deal with them again.

So while this may have been a decent little netbook, I’m giving it a 1 star rating (“I hate it”) because of the lousy support I received from Gateway’s Tech Support organization. They spent way more time determining whether the machine was registered, and if it was still in warranty than actually attempting to resolve what I consider a fairly basic problem. And for me this was a showstopper. So adios Gateway.

“Great netbook” 2010-04-28
By Nikki
Bought this because I was tired of lugging my laptop around on trips. This is very compact, light, and fits in an average sized purse. The screen is very clear, the keys are very comfortable, and it can go pretty much all day without needing to be charged. I did order the extra memory with it, I should have also ordered a soft case (I got one later). Great product!

“Love this netbook” 2010-03-19
By KWL (Utah)
I have had this for over a week now and just love it. I have large fingers and the keys are easy to use for me. I ordered the ram that amazon recomends for this netbook and after installing it the netbook would not boot. I tried reseating several times but it still would not work. I then took my netbook to a local pc repair shop and they tried 2 other ram sticks based on manufactures recomendations but no luck will try more ram later

“Love, love, love this computer” 2010-03-06
By D. Tran
I do a lot of shopping on Amazon. I look at reviews and what is bestselling. I knew I wanted a netbook. I chose this Gateway because of the reviews it had received, both through Amazon and other sites. I absolutely love it! The screen is so crystal clear. The keyboard feels nice and big for a netbook. My husband has an Acer and we both agree, this is a better netbook. The styling is great. I only need it to surf the net, so I cannot comment on use of programs and such. I would be surprised if anyone was actually disappointed with this product.

“LOVE this little thing!” 2010-05-15
By R. A. Myers
I have a large VAIO laptop, but it is such a pain to lug around, especially on vacation. Got this Toshiba to solve the problem and love it. It is so easy to carry, has fantastic battery life, and is quick. As a bonus, it’s great looking! A great buy.

“Glitchy computer” 2010-05-12
By C. Hanson (Spokane, WA, USA)
I bought this computer in October, and the mouse froze a lot – a couple of times the mousepad would not even turn on & I had to plug in an external mouse. So within two weeks of purchase, I returned it. The second computer (same model) had the same problem, just to a lesser extent. This computer also has issues shutting down.

The only reason I give it 2 stars instead of 1 is that the battery really does last as long as it says it will, which is quite convenient. However, the mouse freezes VERY frequently, and it is really annoying.

“Great Netbook” 2010-05-06
By Abigail I. Jones (COLUMBUS, OH, US)
I have loved this netbook. The battery life is great, the appearance of the netbook is great. I love the textured cover. I got it in chocolate brown. It’s a great color. I think it’s very easy to type on, and the portability is great. It fits into my purse with no problem. I am not that knowledgable as far as the specifics of any computer, but I have found no problems working this computer. It runs quickly, even after I installed the whole Microsoft Office system. I would definitely recommend this netbook to anyone. It is easy to use, great in appearance, and very portable.

“My mini” 2010-05-04
By Sakitumi (Albuquerque, NM, US)
So far, so good. I’m still getting used to using the mini, but that’s not the mini’s fault. I don’t like the touch pad, prefer to use a mouse, but not enough room on a classroom student chair/desk. Again, that’s not the mini’s fault, it’s mine. Am planning to use summer break to master my mini and every other electronic device I’ve acquired.

The Windows 7 Starter is a bummer. Talk about bait and switch. I don’t need all the bells and whistles of Windows 7 Office Premium and have already purchased (through Amazon) Windows 7 Student and Home.

All in all, I’m pleased with this purchase and have been with all I’ve purchased through Amazon.

“Even Better Than I Expected!” 2010-04-30
By S. Randall (Houghton Lake, MI USA)
After a couple of months of researching, I decided upon the Acer AOD250-1584 netbook. It had the main features that I wanted – Win7 Starter, 250GB HD, Bluetooth, 6-cell battery, easy-to-read screen, and enhanced sound, in addition to the basics. I read every single review here before I purchased, so I already knew that this was a high-quality machine.

But I wasn’t prepared for what I got. This netbook is FAST! I typically run Rising a/v, Skype, and Glary Utilities whenever the computer is on. In addition, I’m always connected to the ‘net and running Windows Live, my Flock browser (with several tabs running), often a system-intensive gaming site (that used to slow my last laptop to a crawl), Open Office Calc, and notepad. At a minimum. Plus I watch the occasional YouTube video, full screen – or a whole series of them with my grandson.

Even though I haven’t upgraded to 2GB of memory, I haven’t had a single issue with lagging or delays in either Win7 or Linux (Ubuntu netbook remix), which I also installed. This thing runs like a top, even with everything running!

And I have to mention the sound. The speakers are pretty pitiful, even for a laptop, but plug in the headphones and WOW! I haven’t heard such amazing sound from a computer EVER! That Dolby is fantastic! As a musician, I’m pretty picky about sound, and rarely use my speakers anyway so that isn’t an issue to me. The Dolby headphone sound was a big selling feature to me, and not only was I NOT disappointed, but I am absolutely THRILLED! It’s really like being in a concert hall!

As others have also said, after a couple of hours of use the screen size is fine and the keyboard feels natural. I have no qualms whatsoever with the smaller screen and even though I have poor eyesight, the CrystalBrite technology makes it bright and sharp enough that I have no problems seeing even details. And while the keyboard did feel “too small” at first, I was back to my normal 130+wpm typing speed within hours of opening the box.

Re: battery life – I fully charged and discharged the battery 3 times when I first used it, and each time I got a MINIMUM of 9 hours and 15 minutes of battery life, actually using the computer during most of those hours. And keeping my screen bright so that I can see it. I was really surprised to have a battery that actually lasts as long, in use, as advertised. Very happy about that!

It has been mentioned by others that the touchpad is too sensitive, so I never took the sticker/protector off of it when I unpackaged it, and I have no problems. It took a little time to get used to its size but not long, and certainly the single bar over the 2 buttons hasn’t caused me any problems.

The webcam and mic are excellent, and give great quality audio and video on Skype, which I use frequently.

As I try to think of anything at all that might be problematic, I come up empty. There is absolutely nothing, after the first week of use, that I deem a negative in any way. I knew I was getting a great netbook, especially for the price ($279) but for the superior functionality and performance, this computer was a STEAL!

I love this little notebook. It fits practically anywhere. If you are looking for a high processing laptop this is not for you. My one complaint is the screen resolution when viewing webpages but overall its a great little notebook.

Acer AOD250-1584 10.1-Inch Blue Netbook – Up to 9 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter)

I really love this netbook. There were 3 features I was looking for in a netbook.

Feature one: 9 hour battery life

Feature two: 250GB Hard drive

Feature Three: Bluetooth

My mom had purchased a Hewlett Packard 1030NR netbook with a 16GB flash drive, 1GB RAM, no Bluetooth, and a 3 hour battery. This netbook is ok for just office documents but I wanted more. I was replacing my old laptop computer so I wanted a netbook with a lot more horse power. I wanted a fully feature netbook at a reasonable price when I look at Hewlett Packard they wanted around $400.00. That was just outside of my budget than I saw the Acer AOD250-1584 it had all of the features I wanted and I just ordered a 2GB RAM upgrade because I do a lot of photography and the 250GB hard drive helps. When I was working as an Electrical Engineer money was not a problem but I am in a tight economy so I went with the Acer. Although netbooks do not come with a DVD drive it was not that important when doing photography and video I use 8GB to 32GB SDHC cards instead of a DVD drive. I can still watch movies from my 32GB SDHC cards when traveling on a train or plane. On my desktop I take DVD movies and dump them to a 32GB SDHC cards for my netbook.

The LED back light screen is very even in sunlight. The keyboard is small for my big hands but I adjusted to it. When I install MS Office and other programs I took it out for a Wi-Fi test drive at McDonalds, Starbucks, Culvers, and a local coffee shop it works great. I sent out some resumes and cover letters on my email and other employers wanted them faxed so I used my cell phone to fax out my resumes and cover letters. Then I got conformation faxes sent out but the cell phone gets very hot when sending out faxes on it. I did this using the fax program on Windows 7. I have not used the Bluetooth yet I had a spare MS wireless mini mouse I had. I will get a Bluetooth mouse soon because this will free up one of my USB ports.

Then I realized Windows 7 has a VPN Client so I tried login on to my VPN router it would not login then I realized it’s a very old VPN Linksys router BEFVP41 vintage year 2002. The Linksys firmware is simply too old for Windows 7 but it works great with Windows XP Pro. I will be upgrading this router soon with a Linksys RV016 VPN router. Then I know I will be able to login to my VPN network with Windows 7. VPN networking is very important to me. When I am out in the field far away from home I like to send my photographs directly to my network drive on my home network and some printing at home too. I have VPN networking with other relatives so I can send out hour long videos of birthday parties directly to other relative’s computers in complete privacy.

All in all after using the Acer AOD250-1584 netbook for just over a month yes I would still bye this netbook. I would suggest going with the 2GB memory upgrade right away. When you are doing serious work that extra memory helps. There is a 9 cell battery available for this netbook will be looking into this a 15 hour battery sound great in natural disaster with no electricity.

Thank you

Phillieg

“Review from a Linux user.” 2010-04-28
By S. konichek
As soon as this arrived, I installed Ubuntu on it, so this is a review from a Linux user’s perspective.

But first, the hardware– I got the blue version, and must say it looks absolutely wonderful. It has a nice gloss, it does collect fingerprints, but I find that they aren’t that noticeable. It is very light, and it’s screen is very clear and vivid, even on the lowest brightness– sometimes, I can even see the screen with the back light turned off. The keyboard is really nice, I find it just as easy to use as the one at home– the backspace button is right next to delete button, but that is a minor annoyance, and might only apply to me, cause I keep accidentally mixing the two up. Other then that, the keyboard has been spectacular– and believe me, it’s gotten quite a bit of use. I was scared that the touch-pad might be too small, but it is just right… in fact, I find it more usable then most laptop’s touch-pads. The netbook itself seems quite sturdy, and is extremely light and small. The battery does last nine hours, sometimes a little less, but it is always a considerably long amount of time…

Now for the software. The netbook boots up really fast, I would say that it is almost on the same level as my more powerful desktop, which is quite good. Sleep/suspend work wonderfully, and it comes out of sleep mode in an instant. The webcam works wonderfully, and I spent some time playing with the cool effects… the microphone doesn’t pick up sound as well… Compiz works fine, and it doesn’t seem to slow down at all, even with the effects turned up quite a bit, so that means I can use the four workspace/box setup often seen on Youtube, should I want to. Sound, special keys, bluethooth, everything worked out of the box. Wireless is pretty good from what I can tell, my network is a bit shaky– but then it always has been. Other networks seem to work well, but it isn’t the fastest connector if the network is far away. I installed an extra GB of ram, it was immediately detected and I haven’t had any problems in that regard… I can’t say I’ve noticed a huge speed difference since installing the extra ram, but I can have Openoffice, Firefox, Thunderbird, and Songbird(Soon to be Nightingale) up, and being drawing fire on the screen all at the same time without having slowdown.

Overall, I’m very impressed with the Acer AOD250, and would buy it again in a heartbeat.

“Happy with purchase” 2010-04-29
By Pink (Los Angeles, CA)
Very happy with purchase. I bought this because I needed a portable computer to use around the house. I find myself using it in bed a-lot instead of having to go to the computer room. It’s small and compact, I purchased a small mouse to go with it. My husband has used it a few times too because it’s so lightweight and simple to pick up and access. The battery life is very long and I only need to plug in overnight so I’m happy with this. I do wish the screen on the computer was bigger, but that was one of the main reasons I purchased this computer I wanted something very small and easy to use.

My husband did not understand why I wanted such this small computer with no DVD burner (or other major features), but now that he sees that I just want to surf the web and check FB and e-mail… he understands. So he’s happy that I’m happy. I love when he picks up my computer and uses it sometimes, he’s very savvy about computer gadgets so I know he likes my little computer too.

My only complaint is that I did not purchase the pink colored computer… but overall I’m very satisfied with this purchase.

My other complaint is that the computer came with a lot of unnecessary programs that my husband had to uninstall before I started using the computer so it can go faster.

“Quick, pretty, usable Netbook” 2010-04-28
By Nicholas M. Seetin (Alexandria, VA USA)
Let me start by saying that I read nearly every review on Amazon for this product before buying it. Some of the reviews actually seem to be for related Toshiba netbooks which have slightly different features. I am not sure if this is due to users posting reviews in the wrong place, or Amazon aggregating reviews for closely related products, but potential customers should make sure the reviewer is actually reviewing the correct product when considering their praise or criticism.

In any case, if you are considering a netbook, and you actually KNOW WHAT A NETBOOK IS, and what it should be used for, you will be happy with this netbook. I have owned it for several days now and I am loving it. Here are some of my thoughts on the subject:

1. The keyboard:

It is great. I have not yet sat down to serious long hours of typing. I will though, as this netbook will be my main tool for finishing my thesis and eventually writing my dissertation. For the page or so I have written on it, it has been extremely comfortable. I have found in the past that I can adjust pretty well to typing on weird keyboards. I had a first gen EeePC and I was able to get used to that horrible thing. This keyboard, however, required no adjustment. I was typing pretty easily from the beginning.

2. The screen size:

Works for me. It is a little cramped on certain websites, but a quick F11 to make the browser full-screen seems to usually do the trick.

3. The speed:

Here, and on point 4 (OS), is where my review may not be helpful to all readers. I immediately purchased the crucial 2GB memory upgrade. It actually arrived before my netbook did. I started up the machine right out of the box and ran through the first time setup before shutting down and installing the RAM, though. Everything seemed to be decently responsive. Nevertheless, people concerned with speed should read the next portion of my review where I talk about…

4. The operating system:

Windows 7 Starter seemed to work fine. Since, however, I am a grad student and get somewhat of a discount on Microsoft products, I opted to upgrade to Windows 7 Professional pretty soon after purchase. I have to say, I did not notice a huge leap in speed going from 1GB to 2GB of RAM on Windows 7 Starter. Yet when I upgraded to Windows 7 Pro, there was a noticeable overall improvement in the performance of the machine. I cannot explain this, as I am pretty sure that Windows 7 Starter has the same architecture as Windows 7 Pro. If anything, you would think the stripped-down Windows 7 Starter would be designed to operate efficiently within the limited resources of a netbook. In any case, I am not knocking Windows 7 Starter– it is the standard for netbooks– and it seemed to work fine. I just noticed an improvement when I upgraded.

5. other software stuff and notes

I also installed MS Office 2007 Pro from the web with no problems. That and web browsing are going to be my main uses for this netbook. I have yet to attempt an install of Adobe Acrobat Pro from an external DVD drive, but I will soon (the external drive is old, from my first-gen EeePC, so I hope it works). I have watched a lot of streaming Netflix content on this without any significant problems. I think that is a pretty good measure of the machine.

6. Battery

The battery life is amazing. I am reasonably sure it doesn’t quite live up to the ideal 11 hours under my normal usage. Still, the battery lasts so long I don’t even really know what to do. I am used to having to set a routine to charge my gadgets, like plugging in my iPhone before I go to bed, etc. This machine, however, has so much battery life left that it is actually confusing me. I am guessing for my usage, I’ll be charging it every 1.5 to 2 days.

7. Speakers or The Worst Part of This Netbook

Everyone has said it on here and I will repeat it. These speakers are pretty miserable. Not even just the speakers, but the maximum volume level as well. I knew it going in, so I cannot complain too much. I am able to watch Netflix stuff at night lying in bed, but only just. I am sure if there was any background noise (a fan, etc.) it would not cut it. The key though, is that this is a netbook. The combined forces of physical constraints (size and weight) and pricepoint make anything more substantial than these speakers nearly impossible. My advice is to get a good set of headphones, and also perhaps a nice compact set of speakers. I have a folding JBL On Tour speaker unit that is amazing for its size. I actually use it for most of my television watching on a regular basis.

8. Aesthetic appeal

I find this netbook quite beautiful. Though it is listed as “Java Brown” I do not think that is an accurate color name. I would have been totally happy with “java brown,” but the color of this netbook is more metallic. It is more like a burnished deep copper or bronze color on the outside, with closely spaced diagonal lines etched into it. When opened, the deep copper color which surrounds the screen is more glossy and the diagonal lines are a pattern of slightly lighter color, not etched. Very nice overall. It also just feels sturdily built.

In sum, I am very satisfied with this netbook. I hope my review helps!

“Little dinamo…” 2010-04-28
By Jan M.
I’ve had this netbook for over a month now and have had a chance to use it on the road, which was the primary reason for this purchase. It is quite the little dinamo. As suggested in previous reviews,I just went ahead and purchased the extra gig which was easy to install. It started right up.. no issues. Fast a very reliable. The battery life if more like 9 hours, but still plenty for a long flight. Love the surface on the cover, little if any fingerprint marks. Only complaint is once again the lack of sound. It was too soft and yes earphones help..Need to work on this Toshiba.

“Toshiba NB305 NetbookLo” 2010-04-27
By Charles M. Thomas (San Francisco, CA)
Love it. Very compact, light, portable — and great battery life. Have used at a coffee shop for 2 hours, with very large percentage of battery life remaining. Can’t say if it would or wouldn’t last 11 or 10 hours, but I know at 3 or 4 or 5 you’d have no worries, and I’d rarely stretch it that far. As with any netbook, you don’t get the most powerful cpu, but that’s the tradeoff for the light weight and low power-consumption. I upgraded to the max 2Gig memory, upgraded from Win7 Starter to full Win7 and bought an external DVD drive, so ended up pushing $600 altogether, but it’s probably the best of breed at the moment with the great looks, the exceptional battery life and flawless functioning. Very happy with it.

“Good solid netbook” 2010-04-26
By Adam Matlack (Houston, TX USA)
If you are looking for a netbook with great battery life and a good true type keyboard and ultra portable.. look no further! its a solid product and would back this purchase.

PROS

Battery life and keyboard! The upgrade to more ram was the most simple and quick upgrade ive ever done.

CONS

Need to upgrade to 2gb of ram.. almost a must.

Touch pad very sensitive. Keyboard good size. I upgraded to 2G, but probably did not need to. Overall very satisfied.

“Simply Awesome!” 2010-02-27
By G. L. Chesney
My household has five computers and this is the best one. I keep it in Sleep mode just by opening and closing the lid and the battery lasts up to two days with moderate use. This is our first Windows 7 computer and it works well, recognizing our home network and its NAS without any effort. I use a combination of Chrome, Picasa (with eye-fi), Security Essentials and Office and it is zippy enough.

“Wonderful Buy!!!” 2010-04-22
By E. Taylor
Although we have a desk top computer I need the netbook to be more efficent and maximize my time. I took my netbook with me last night to a conference and the ability to take notes instantly without first writing them down and then transfering them through data entry is priceless. I am able to work while I am at wrestling practice or basketball practice. I am able to pull something up during meetings. The battery life is exceptional. I wouuld surely purchase this netbook again!

“Portable” 2010-04-22
By Christine Dancer (Michigan)
This notebook is portable and does everything my bigger laptop does. I attend school and taking this light-weight laptop to school with me is so much easier to carry and I don’t lose any options that my bigger laptop has. This smaller laptop has not disappointed me at all. Its fast and the battery lasts a lot longer than my larger laptop does, which is another great feature.

“the little netbook that could” 2010-04-17
By C. G. White ac (Texas)
This little hummer is just the thing for amatuer radio control. small, easy to carry and readily handles all tasks associated with radio control, pictures, and the projector. couldn’t have asked for anything better and its battery does keep up for over 6 hrs (thats the longest I have had it on battery). Good buy for the Hams.

“the notebook little brother” 2010-04-11
By Rich (Seattle, WA)
When netbook came out a few years ago I thought it was boloney. After years of lugging a 15″ and 13″ laptop around, my shoulder got tired. I really don’t do heavy 3d application when I am out or at a coffee shop, so the internet surfing and email checking netbook fits the bill. I was torn between paying for a iPad or the cheapest netbook that could actually stream video on the go.

Specs/ performance:

Ok it takes a while to get use to the small keypad, the keypad was much stiffer then my Lenovo ThinkPad or older Sony’s Vaio. The web browser is a tad slower, but not by much. The iPad had lagging issues if you stream a 480p, I found the Gateway to be a little choppy, but it doesn’t stop and lag likes the iPad. I have no issues with any pages since it is a pc that can do flash. I am get 6-7mb download, so it is not the connection speed, but the graphic or ram problem on this netbook. The atom N450 is good, but it is not a dual core, multi-tasking will be sluggish on here. I could not do a Norton anti-virus scan with installing a driver in the background. I had to stop one program and the other one started to work. Granted you can run multiple small programs in the background fine. The sound quality if you plug in your headphone is not as good, but fine. Also the speakers are loud enough for streaming movies and much louder than the iPad. Window 7 starter is a bare bone, but workable system. Funny there is no way to change the background picture without a work around. It is also only 32bit system. They say 8hr, but I get like 5hr with wifi on all the time. The keypada was harder or less responsive then the thinkpad and logitect on my computer.

Design/ configurations

This one of the cheapest netbook with the newer Atom N450 core. Since I got this at Frys for 279 the price is fair. Gateway netbook with 250gb and n draft is 329 similar to Dell and Asus’s netbook with the same configuration. I would believe 90 more gb and n draft is worth the 30 dollar upgrade over this model. The layout is almost identical to other netbook, making me believe they were made from the same plant somewhere in China. But I got to say Gateway looks is the most eye-catching and why I pick this other the other brands. I prefer the eraser-head mouse, but only the pricier Lenovo has that option. The shiny screen is very bright and vivid, so there is no complaint.

Since this is my first netbook I find it a little slow and crap, but it works much better than I expected from other earlier netbooks I played with. Sadly the overprice iPad, which I prefer, is no competition to a cheaper netbook with all the PC features you can add to it. I am going to max out the ram when I find the right type.

Featuring a precision unibody enclosure crafted from a single block of aluminum, the MacBook Pro is thinner and lighter than its predecessor as well as stronger and more durable. But Apple didn’t stop innovating with the body’s design. The MacBook Pro also includes a new 15-inch, LED-backlit glass display (instead of an LCD panel) as well as a glass trackpad that doesn’t include a button (for larger tracking area) that features Apple’s Multi-Touch technology.

The 15-inch unibody MacBook Pro (see larger version).

This 15-inch MacBook Pro (model MC118LL/A) also now includes Apple’s innovative built-in notebook battery for up to 7 hours of wireless productivity on a single charge without adding thickness, weight or cost. Using Adaptive Charging and advanced chemistry first introduced with the 17-inch MacBook Pro the built-in battery delivers up to 1000 recharges before it reaches 80 percent of its original capacity–nearly three times the lifespan of conventional batteries.Under the hood, the MacBook Pro is powered by a powerful 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor (with 3 MB L2 cache and 1066 MHz front-side bus), which runs applications faster and more efficiently as well as helps to reduce power requirements and save on battery life. And video is powered by the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M integrated graphics processor, which provides an outstanding everyday graphics experience with up to a 5x performance boost.

Other hardware features include a 250 GB hard drive, 4 GB of installed RAM (which can be upgraded to 8 GB), an 8x combo Superdrive (for burning dual-layer DVDs as well as CDs), built-in Gigabit Ethernet for high-speed networking, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR (Enhanced Data Rate), FireWire 800 port, Mini DisplayPort video output (for DVI and VGA connections), and a Secure Digital card slot for easy access to digital photos and audio stored on SD and MMC memory cards.

It comes pre-loaded with Apple’s Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard operating system–an operating system custom-designed for the advanced technology inside–and it also comes with the iLife ’09 suite of applications, including iPhoto, iMovie, Garageband, and iTunes.

The Unibody MacBook Pro Design
Traditionally notebooks are made from multiple parts. With the MacBook Pro all of those parts with just one part–the breakthrough unibody enclosure. Every MacBook Pro starts its life as a single block of aluminum, which is precisely machined into the basic unibody design. Another pass and the unibody takes shape. Another, and the integrated keyboard emerges. When you pick up a new MacBook Pro, you immediately notice the entire enclosure is thinner and lighter. And it feels strong and durable–perfect for life inside (and outside) your briefcase or backpack.

Off-the-shelf lithium-ion cells come in fixed, cylindrical shapes. The 15-inch MacBook Pro is powered by custom-made, ultrathin lithium-polymer batteries.

The standard aluminum electro-static trackpad has been replaced with a new glass Multi-Touch trackpad, which provides 40 percent more tracking area than before. Use two fingers to scroll up and down a page. Pinch to zoom in and out. Rotate an image with your fingertips. Swipe with three fingers to flip through your photo libraries. Swipe with four fingers to show your desktop, view all open windows, or switch applications. The entire trackpad surface is also a button, allowing you to both track and click virtually anywhere on the trackpad. And you can easily enable multiple virtual buttons in software, such as right-clicking.The keyboard has also been improved, with the rigid aluminum keyboard webbing cut precisely to hold the keys, which are curved to perfectly fit fingers. And it’s illuminated, so when you’re in low-light settings, such as airplanes or conference rooms, you can always see what you’re typing.

The 15-inch display is made of edge-to-edge, uninterrupted glass for a smooth, seamless surface and features LED backlighting for brilliant instant-on performance that uses up to 30 percent less energy than its predecessor. The ultra-thin displays provide crisp images and vivid colors which are ideal for viewing photos and movies

Long-Lasting Battery
The 15-inch MacBook Pro now includes a newly engineered lithium-polymer battery that that lasts up to 7 hours on a single charge thanks to advanced chemistry, intelligent monitoring of the system and battery, and Adaptive Charging technology. The battery is built right into the computer, eliminating the space-consuming mechanisms and housings that standard removable batteries require. This non-removable battery also provides a longer battery lifespan of up to 1000 recharges–meaning fewer depleted batteries and less waste, which is better for the environment.

Giving it a lifespan of up to 1000 recharges required breakthroughs in battery technology. Apple electro-chemists developed advanced chemistry that maintains the battery’s charging capabilities longer than ever. And while most notebooks wear down their batteries by charging them at a constant rate, the 15-inch MacBook Pro takes a different approach. Using an Apple-developed technology called Adaptive Charging, a microchip on the battery constantly communicates with the computer to determine the optimal way to charge its cells, adjusting the current up and down depending on a variety of conditions. Combined, these advancements offer a dramatic improvement in battery lifespan: more than three times the lifespan of typical notebook batteries–up to five years.

Intel Core 2 Duo Processor
Experience improved energy efficiency, expanded wireless connectivity, and amazing battery life with the 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, which has a super-fast 1066 MHz front-side bus (FSB), and an large 3 MB L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system’s performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)

The hafnium-infused circuitry–which reduces electrical current leakage in transistors–conserves even more energy, giving you more time away from the wall outlet. With 3 MB of shared L2 cache, data and instructions can be kept close to the two processor cores, greatly increasing performance and allowing the entire system to work more efficiently. And, because the processor cores share the L2 cache, either can use the entire amount if the other happens to be idle.

Video Processing & Output
The MacBook Pro delivers both powerful graphics performance and long battery life via the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M integrated graphics processor, which provides an outstanding everyday graphics experience with up to a 5x performance boost. Power your way through the latest 3D games–including Call of Duty and Quake–and enjoy improved graphics performance with iWork ’09, iLife ’09, and everything you do in Mac OS X. The power-saving NVIDIA integrated graphics processor also keeps you up and running throughout the day, with up to 7 hours of battery life.

The MacBook Pro includes a next generation Mini DisplayPort, which delivers a pure digital signal that can drive up to a 30-inch widescreen display. The Mini DisplayPort is ultra-compact at just 10 percent the size of a full DVI connector, and is compatible with Apple’s 24-inch Cinema Display. Adapters are also available for using VGA, DVI/HDMI and Dual-Link DVI displaysHard Drive and Memory
The 250 GB Serial-ATA (SATA) hard drive (5400 RPM) quickens the pace with a higher speed transfer of data–akin to USB 2.0. The 4 GB of PC3-8500 DDR2 RAM (two SO-DIMMs of 1024 MB) has an industry-leading 1066 MHz speed, and the RAM capacity can be increased to 8 GB.

Wireless Connectivity
The built-in 802.11n wireless networking provides up to five times the performance and twice the range of 802.11g, but it’s also backward-compatible with 802.11a/b/g routers, enabling you to communicate with the a wide variety of Wi-Fi resources. It works seamlessly with the new AirPort Extreme with 802.11n. Use the built-in Bluetooth wireless technology to connect to your PDA or cell phone, synchronize addresses, or download pictures from your cell phone. You can also use a wireless headset for iChat audio chats and VoIP calls as well as quickly share files with a colleague.

Video Conferencing with Built-in iSight
Artfully placed in the glass display is an iSight camera, which enables easy video conferencing as well as allows you to snap pictures of yourself and create video podcasts. Using the iChat AV application, video conferencing is integrated into your iChat buddy list, so initiating a video conference is a breeze. iChat also lets you hold audio chats with up to 10 people and provides high-quality audio compression and full-duplex sound so conversation can flow naturally. For video podcasting, you can record a short clip using the iSight camera, then use iWeb to create a video blog entry or post your GarageBand-recorded podcast.

Environmental Considerations
Apple has worked hard to eliminate many of the toxins that are a common part of computer manufacturing. Apple engineers removed the majority of brominated flame retardants (BFRs) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) from circuit boards, internal cables, connectors, insulators, adhesives, and more in the MacBook Pro.Because Apple makes both the hardware and the software for the MacBook, they’re designed to work together to produce a smarter product that uses less electricity. For instance, to reduce energy consumption, the hard drive spins down automatically when inactive. MacBook Air also decides which processor–CPU or GPU–is best suited to efficiently perform a task. The LED-backlit display in the MacBook Pro is another feature that plays an important part in conserving energy, consuming 30 percent less power than conventional LCD displays. And the display is designed to dim when you enter a darkened room.

The MacBook Pro meets the stringent low power requirements set by the EPA, giving it ENERGY STAR certification. MacBook also meets the latest efficiency requirements of ENERGY STAR Version 5.0 Specification for Computers before its July 2009 effective date.

The MacBook Pro has also earned the highest rating of EPEAT Gold. The Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool, or EPEAT, evaluates the environmental impact of a product based on how recyclable it is, how much energy it uses, and how it’s designed and manufactured.

“Mailed it back” 2010-04-23
By Mark A. Chance (Boulder, CO)
This was a great laptop – I liked it so much I sent it back! Why? Because the new and improved models came out for about the same price and 50% faster! Now I just wish Amazon would help me out by discounting the re-stocking fee since I am essentially upgrading!Apple MacBook Pro MC373LL/A 15.4-Inch Laptop

Great product, I actually sent this back for the new I-7 MacBook but would’ve kept it had it not been for the upgrade. I’ve been using Apple products for years and wasn’t disappointed, just wanted the performance upgrade.

“Windows user makes the jump!” 2010-04-12
By Phillip N. Puckett (Buena Vista, CO)
I have been looking at switching to a Mac for my personal laptop for several years but the cost always delayed my decision. Well I finally hit the order button on the 15.4″ MacBook Pro and can’t be happier. The quality of the build is outstanding and I love how smooth the OS and applications run. It actually feels like a single product which I know is the point of a Mac but it is so refreshing. I’ve spent a week getting to know the OS and built in apps and have found it easy to learn. It is funny that I have to learn to do things the natural way (such as the finger controls on the touch pad).

Figuring out how to transition over from Quicken on my PC is still a challenge. I’ve been looking at iBank and may give it a shot. I just ordered iWork so I can migrate off Excel/Word/PowerPoint.

Pros:

1) top of the line construction

2) stable OS

3) ease of use working with pictures

4) smooth integration with my camera, printer and Internet apps

Cons:

1) cost is a bit high (but snagged a good deal on Amazon)

2) while the shell is nice and sleek, the edge is a bit sharp and can rub on your wrist if you are at a bad angle

Overall I am VERY HAPPY

“Just missing perfection for a sub-par mouse pad” 2010-04-09
By G. Joel Franco (Las Vegas, NV)
As my 4yr old HP laptop finally died on me, I was in the market for a new laptop. I am in the Film/TV industry so I needed something sturdy, fast, and something I could use editing software such as Final Cut Pro. Naturally my attention moved to a MAC and I settled on the MacBook Pro 15″ line.

Overall, this is truly a real amazing laptop. The keyboard is wide enough, and easy to use, speed is great, and so far I haven’t had too many problems switching from Windows to Apple OS. While I don’t think Apple OS is the salvation to the world, I do see lots of improvements over Windows.

What is not good about the MacBook Pro (and for the price it is unacceptable) is the mouse pad and the heat of the computer. The mouse pad is not good by any standard. Often times touching the pad (something which works wonderfully and most other laptops) does not work until you actually press on the pad. When you try to touch the pad, often you end highlighting parts of a web page for no reason. Same actually happens with pressing on the pad, but less frequently. Also, I find myself having to press real hard on the pad for it to work properly. Again, this should not happen.

What is good about the pad, is the ability to use it almost like an iPhone. While I don’t particularly find this feature useful, I can see that people like it and may take advantage.

The computer does get real hot (again, for the price they need to do something about it), but I have read that on most Macs (desktops as well) the chips tend to run hotter than on Windows based PC. Curious, but again, for the price these costs, they need to do something to refrain from heating up like this.

This is truly a real good product, but not perfect as price, heat of the computer, and horrid mousepad keep it from being absolutely great.

“Very happy with it” 2010-04-10
By C. Norais (Madison, WI USA)
I bought it 3 weeks ago and am very happy with it.

I run it with Ubuntu (need to upgrade to the latest kernel and Xorg to have the graphic card recognized properly) and everything is very stable and efficient so far. The machine doesn’t heat much and is pretty silent, even under high CPU load. It’s a very good desktop replacement but not a gaming computer. The screen is sharp and bright. I can work on it the whole day without getting tired. I would recommend it for the budget ($700) if you are looking for a desktop replacement/transportable office computer.

“great value and quality but mouse pad design is a killer” 2010-03-26
By yabidoo (USA)
Great value and quantity:

Got it for $700. best price ever 6 weeks ago, still the best price now most likely.

big screen but not heavy.

One of the best manufactures of the world:

I came from Taiwan and knew Acer is the best manufacture from there. started by doing oem for biggest companys in US over last 20 yrs ago.

Amazing Intel I5 cpu speed:

I am impressed by the Data bus speed;backup from my old Dell dimension 9100 to a portable HD took 107 mins,

but only took 27 mins from HD to this laptop.

Fast boot up and shutdown in Window 7:

I have 4 laptops. Dell, toshiba and HP definitely are slower in this catagory.

Often time, there are way too much pre-installed pkgs came with them, sucks!

Hygene flat keyboard, not everyone favor:

flat and non-sticky key makes it easier to clean. took me couple weeks to get used to it. I am ok with it.

Mouse pad is a killer:

Consider is a newer design of the mouse pad with some intersting features.

However I think it is a failure one. It is doing something that I don’t expect sometime. I usually disable it and use a reg mouse. Besides there is configuration window that you can configure its sensertivity or even diable its features…

Without mouse pad I will give 5 stars. However, by screwing up such a basic but one of the most important feature of laptop, I can only give 3 stars.

BTW, I thought only I7 is quad cores. Actually I5 is one as well. check it out in task manager…

“don’t buy this!” 2010-03-12
By empty pockets (the forest)
Avoid this model, i bought this and returned it after 24 hours, i had to do a hard close 6 times just to restart it, the mouse pad is a nightmare, the text on the screen shrinks into a microuniverse which makes it impossible to read. The arrow key froze up on me more than a dozen time in just the 24 hours i had this model. I called tech support who have no clue what they’re doing and tried to get someone who could speak english, still no help after 4 phone calls over the course of 8 hours.

What a complete waste of my time to buy and then bring this computer back to the store i bought it in.

Once again, do not buy this model there are better computers out there.

“Best laptop I own yet” 2010-02-24
By Robert Walter (Goldsboro, NC USA)
I have own a Acer before. My last Acer lasted me 8 years. I Love my new Acer. I use it for Work, school, and Play.

This computer boots up fast. runs fast. lots of space for work and school and games. I play World of Warcraft It run Just like if I was on my gamer desk top. I work in EMS SO I do my my reports, MY con ED is done on line with the big 17″ screen I see the Videos lot better than my old 15″ and loads the video faster. Playing WOW the game runs fast very little lag if any. FPS is just a little slower than my desktop.

By the way have I told you I love this laptop. has every thing I need, The price for this laptop is low compared to other laptop of the same built. This the best laptop for the price.

“Superb Choice” 2010-02-21
By GlobalHoaxing (Somewhere in Virginia, maybe.)
I usually buy my electronics through [...]. Newegg didn’t have this model so Amazon got my business on this one and I’m glad that I happened to stumble across it.

I wanted 2 things in my PC. One was a large screen and the other was speed. The 17.3″ screen is perfect. Not as bulky as an 18.4″ but larger than a 15.6″, so it’s a good compromise. The new i5 chip is great. I didn’t see the point in buying a PC with the old INTEL chips or AMD. I buy a new PC maybe every 6 years or so and considering I could have spent a lot more on a model by another manufacturer with the older chipsets it just makes more sense to buy this….which is really what makes this PC such an excellent purchase.

Usually when you find something that’s a good buy you’re making numerous compromises. That’s not the case with this Acer. From the new chip to the 500 gb hard drive to the 4 USB’s, card reader, VGA, HDMI, and dual-layer drive it’s top-notch and is of an excellent quality build. Nothing feels cheap.

I have always despised notebook PC keyboards and anticipated using an external keyboard. Well, surprise surprise surprise….with the touchpad turned off, I find this keyboard works great. The keys are a good size for my stubby fingers, I don’t mistype on it and find that the straight down touch you use, instead of the slightly angular touch I like on the external keyboards, works perfectly fine. The keyboard has a great feel to it as well. Rest your palms on the lower portion and go to work. I won’t need an external keyboard with this PC. I definitely give it an A.

The screen is excellent. It’s very sharp, equally bright and does justice to all my pics. Video is excellent and although it does not do 1080p HD, it does do lower resolution HD perfectly fine and on the 17 inch screen it looks fantastic. In fact, watching YouTube or other videos in full-screen mode looks good, but will look better when these on-line videos start sending out higher resolution streams than they do now. DVDs are excellent.

When I made my purchase decision I had looked at 6 or 7 other brands and found that the ACER beat them all on price when you compared the options it came with. The biggest dilemma for me was to get a model with a blu-ray drive and an i3 chip, or to go with the much faster i5 and not have blu-ray. For me, the best decision was to take the faster chip. I believe it would likely provide for smoother video and graphics overall and I could always add an external blu-ray drive later, if I really wanted to.

The only other factor about this PC which concerned me was that this model uses the integrated INTEL video card. I have used PCs with that in the past and found that I preferred having a separate graphics card. But my research indicated that INTEL is using a different methodology on the motherboards that have the new i series chips so I decided to go with it. So far I am pleased, but since I have not used one with a separate graphics card, I cannot say whether or not the separate graphics card offers any advantage in terms of performance. My guess is that a separate graphics card with 2 meg of dedicated RAM in addition to the 4 meg the system comes with might perform better under certain situations, however the software for this PC automatically dedicates 1,756k to video memory of the main 4mb and it’s all DDR3 so I wonder if the difference would really be that noticeable. The additional price would be though, so I think this might well be the better purchase.

One disappointment…the sound on the speakers is very low, and since it’s Dolby Home Theater with Virtual Surround Sound I expected more volume from the PC itself. Internet radio is hard to hear, but if I watch a video and use Windows Media Player or Winamp, that software boosts the sound a bit more. I use external speakers whenever I can and will continue to do so with this, but these internal speakers really are low volume.

If you’re in the market for a new notebook this is a great PC. It’s a great buy too. To borrow a phrase from a mortgage broker who advertises locally here….”It’s the biggest no-brainer in the history of earth.”

“Pretty good student laptop” 2010-04-09
By Steven Townsend (American Fork, Utah USA)
We’re replacing the ASUS EeePC that we used for university classes. It’s a perfect ‘tweener’ between an underpowered Netbook and a heavy, bad battery life laptop. I’d call it a Lapbook. Beautiful screen that is shorter than a full size laptop. Recommend a bluetooth mouse because the track pad is pretty small.

My only complaint is that for some reason it take a long time to launch any application after bringing out of hibernate and logging in. My wife logged in and clicked on Firefox. Didn’t launch for 2 minutes.

“Giddy up!” 2010-03-25
By Davebo (Chicago)
Wow.. Great little laptop, I’ve never owned a Toshiba but I honestly couldn’t be happier. This thing screams and the battery lasts forever. It collects a lot of fingerprints due to its shiny exterior but all in all there’s nothing bad about it. The perfect laptop for any casual user, can do loads more than a netbook but still has the size and weight of one. Bought the Toshiba PA3761U-1DV2 Portable/Slim USB SuperMulti DVD-Writer to go with it and it works like a charm. One thing to note – the WINDVD software that comes with the external drive asks for a Serial number for installation – for some reason the serial number is on the DVD itself and nowhere else. So write it down before installing.

“Perfect for my needs” 2010-03-12
By Lorraine (HB, CA)
I wanted a light laptop that was faster and provided more options than a netbook. I’ve had this laptop for over two weeks now and already took it on a trip with me. I have read all the reviews of this laptop on Amazon and other sites as well as reviews of similar Toshiba Satellite laptops. I was prepared for some of the problems I have read about but experienced none. The low volume problem that many mentioned is easily fixed by going into the sound settings and making adjustments there. I had no problem using the keyboard or the mousepad. I don’t know why some others had complaints. The “fingerprint magnet” issue that is widely mentioned was not as bad as I had expected. So I am satisfied with my new laptop and find that it meets my needs.

“Really nice” 2010-02-13
By S. R. Schnur (ME USA)
My laptop seems to have all the same characteristics with a slightly different model number so I am reviewing here. My main computer crashed with a problem that will take weeks to fix so I needed a substitute right away. I bought the Satellite U5O5-S2950 at Wallmart.

First the bad things: It has an impact sensor on it that gives a message that it has moved the hard drive to a safe place. Every time I bumped the table leg I got the message. It did not, however, interfere with what I was doing. Once I determined that the hard drive would promptly move back to it working position, I told the computer to not to give me the message any more, solving the problem. The second thing that is driving me crazy it the shiny dark gray on on shiny dark brown keyboard. What with the minimal contrast between the symbols and the background and the glare on the shiny keys, it is nearly impossible to see. I am a hunt and peck typist. I pretty well know where the letters are, but the symbols very hard to find. This is definitely not a computer for a low vision user – or even a user whose vision has any imperfections.

Otherwise the computer is wonderful. It comes with Windows 7. So far I have found no problems with it. It also has Works which is adequate for most needs. I installed Word Perfect Office X4. The Toshiba comes with a trial offer of Microsoft Office. I was unable to configure the new mail program called “Live” to pick up my mail, but my Word Perfect mail program seemed to have no problem.

I have a slight hand tremor, and the touchpad took way to much effort to get the pointer where I wanted it so I got an external mouse. I don’t think the touchpad is worse than those of other laptops. There are many slots for peripherals. It comes with a DVD drive. Since my other computer isn’t here and doesn’t work, I have been unable to test the ‘sync” function. Nor have I tried logging in from “hotspots” which I have never done and wish to try.

This computer is barely bigger than the “netbook” type, but it is slim and light weight and more functional than a netbook. Were it not for the low contrast keyboard I would have given it 5 stars.

“Great portable laptop with more than enough power” 2010-04-18
    By futbalguy (Chicago, IL USA)
I had purchased a 10″ Asus netbook but I was sick of it after a few hours of squinting at the screen. I just couldnt be productive using it. I decided I would try again with this laptop and its so much better. Well worth the additional $200. Everything about it is perfect for my needs. Super portable. Good battery life. The cpu was a concern of mine initially but it really has plenty of power. Ive been a mac user for several years now and I have to say that I am pretty impressed with Windows 7 too. Very elegant and has *borrowed* some UI features from OS X. Works for me.

“Not as advertised, but promptly rectified by Amazon” 2010-04-11
    By Gene Dalton (Escondido, Ca)
I’m asking Amazon for an exchange as the notebook sent me was not as advertised. After receiving the Asus UL20a I went to install a second memory stick and discovered the installed memory stick that came with the computer was 1GB 400mz instead of the 2GB 800mz advertised. Called Asus support and they told me to contact Amazon. Apparently they thought that somehow the different memory stick sent than what was advertised was Amazon’s responsibility.

The UL20a appears to be a great computer for the money and I would have given it at least 4 stars probably 5 stars if the advertised 2GB memory stick hadn’t apparently vanished to be replaced by a 1 GB.

I would recommend this computer to anyone needing a light weight, compact, full function(except of course for no optical drive)notebook and would definitely buy it instead of a netbook.

I changed my rating to 5 stars after the prompt actions taken by Amazon to rectify this problem. See my comment in the comments section for details.

“Lots of notebook for the money – battery life comes with caveats” 2010-04-06
By Laurent (El Sobrante, CA United States)
I rely on consumer reviews to make my purchases and I thought it was time to return the favor. I own several ASUS eee Netbooks, and was disappointed with the Windows 7 one I recently purchased. Contrary to what I had read in Windows 7 reviews, it’s much more resource-intensive than XP. The UL-20, with its dual core processor and dedicated graphics card has no trouble handling 7′s Aero scheme, starts programs rapidly and takes on multi-tasking without a hitch. The LED screen displays your work in vibrant colors, and generally, the positives mentioned in other reviews are true – except for battery life. If you use a battery-optimized power scheme to watch movies on the plane, you might get 5 hours out of your laptop, but this takes a toll on performance. While frames won’t necessarily skip, you may notice annoying color artifacts. With a more performance-oriented power scheme, battery life is reduced to 3.5 hours. There may be a way to improve this by experimenting with the scheme, but in any case, 7.5 hours is what you get on extreme power-saving. That will allow office applications to run, but it won’t make for smooth, enjoyable video. Still, the UL-20 is an exceptional laptop for the money, and while it doesn’t meet all of a “road warrior’s” needs, it comes close. Kudos to Asus.

    “ASUS UL20A-A1 super-netbook works great!!” 2010-03-24
By J. Mansfield (Costa Mesa, CA)
I bought my ASUS UL20A-A1 four months ago. I use it exclusively as a lightweight portable, and it performs beautifully. Battery life has been very good – probably 5-6 hours/charge. It is small, light, and powerful. I wanted a unit I could use for presentations, WiFi email access, and photoprocessing; so, I wanted a lot more than a weak netbook; and this unit is perfect. The Intel 7300 processor with 64-bit Windows 7 is more than up to the task – and I can add another 2 gigs in the future if I need it. The bright LED display more than makes up for the 12″ screen size. Only complaint is that ASUS is very light on documentation; so, you might want more guidance if this is your first computer. I’ve never needed any support; so, I can’t comment on support quality.ASUS UL20A-A1 Thin and Light 12.1-Inch Silver Laptop – 7.5 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Home Premium)

    “Fantastic little machine” 2010-03-21
    By A. Tan (Global)
I use this laptop for work and it is light, has a long battery life and is pretty damn speedy. For the price, it is unbeatable, I have had many laptops in this size (all of them more expensive), and I can honestly say that I have no need to upgrade any feature. For work stuff; fast, light, long battery. For gaming; i have no idea.
